Wiest to Star in Memory House at Playwrights

Oscar winner Dianne Wiest is set to return to the New York stage this spring. She will star in Kathleen Tolan's Memory House at Playwrights Horizons beginning April 22.

In Memory House, Wiest will play a mother whose 18-year-old daughter confronts her about the ethical ramifications of her own international adoption. The play unfolds in real time as Wiest's character struggles to bake a pie and her onstage daughter races to meet the rapidly looming postmark deadline for her college applications.

Wiest starred in readings of the play and was announced to star in a West End mounting of it that never materialized. She won Academy Awards for her performances in Hannah and Her Sisters and Bullets Over Broadway. Wiest most recently appeared on Broadway during the 2002-2003 theatrical season's starry staging of Salome and has also appeared on the Great White Way in Solitaire, Frankenstein, Othello, Beyond Therapy and In the Summer House . She won a Theatre World Award and an Obie Award for her performance in The Art of Dining and another Obie for both Other Places and Serenading Louie.

Memory House, directed by David Esbjornson, is scheduled to officially open on May 17.
